Irebe Biotech
Problem
Irebe Biotech developed a deep passion for addressing the challenges facing the Rwandan medical manufacturing sector, particularly its high dependence on medical imports. Noticing a significant medical shortage in Africa, this sparked the idea that would drive their mission forward.
Solution
We are committed to boosting local manufacturing of medical products and always striving for medical breakthroughs which change people’s lives.
Impact
The story of Irebe Biotech begins in July 2021 when Founder Eric UZABAKIRIHO joined the JASIRI Talent Investor Program. This marked the inception of a journey aimed at transforming the Rwandan medical manufacturing sector and reducing the country’s dependence on medical imports, with the ultimate goal of addressing the significant medical shortages across Africa.
Sow Precise
Problem
Over 70% of Kenya’s land is arid or semi-arid, with approximately 7 million farmers facing unreliable rainfall and unaffordable irrigation, leaving land bare and vulnerable to erosion. This results in insufficient vegetable oil seed production, forcing Kenya to spend USD 600 million annually on imports and leaving over 30% of farmers in these regions living on less than $2 a day.
Solution
SOW PRECISE promotes year-round vegetable oil seed production by enhancing irrigation efficiency and reducing costs through our SunRider system. SunRider offers Energy as a Service (EaaS) and ownership-free irrigation, allowing low-income farmers to share irrigation equipment accessing the latest solar technology at a nominal fee.
This increases productivity and ensures a ready market for produce through partnerships with processing companies, providing financial stability and reducing crop loss.
Impact
Established in March 2022, through the Jasiri Talent Investor, SowPrecise has significantly influenced farming in arid and semi-arid regions of Kenya. By collaborating with numerous farmers, the company has facilitated the widespread adoption of its solar-powered irrigation system, SunRider. This innovative system is revolutionizing agriculture by transforming previously barren lands into fertile zones and enhancing sustainable crop production. Additionally, by replacing diesel-powered pumps with solar energy, SunRider is delivering substantial cost savings to farmers, thereby enhancing their economic stability and promoting environmental sustainability
Mulika Farm
Problem
Mulika Farm is tackling the challenge of inadequate transparent and reliable direct sourcing channels for agricultural produce between farmers and traders. Traditional supply chains, involving multiple intermediaries, can erode up to 55% of the harvest’s value, diminishing farmers’ profits, reducing transparency, and inflating costs for consumers. Moreover, the complexity of these systems often leads to delays that degrade produce quality, contribute to significant food waste, and create inefficiencies in market pricing.
Solution
Mulika Farm is poised to transform the agricultural supply chain by establishing a direct, transparent, and reliable channel that connects farmers with traders. By utilizing a technology-driven platform, Mulika Farm will facilitate real-time data access on produce availability, quality, and pricing, and provide support for efficient logistics to minimize delays and spoilage.
Impact
Established in September 2022 through the Jasiri Talent Investor, Mulika Farm aims to streamline the agricultural supply chain by directly connecting farmers with traders. This connection is designed to increase farmer profitability by eliminating intermediaries, reduce costs for traders and consumers through more efficient logistics, and enhance produce quality by shortening transit times, thereby reducing spoilage. By optimizing logistics, Mulika Firms promises to transform the agricultural supply chain into a more efficient, sustainable, and equitable system, which is expected to drive economic development and improve living standards in farming communities
